Which standing desk size to choose: 100x60 cm, 120x60 cm, 140x70 cm, or 160x80 cm
Compartir
Choosing a standing desk is not just about deciding between one or two motors, the color of the frame, or the desktop finish.
There is another equally important decision: the size of the desk surface.
A desktop that is too small may fall short when you start adding a second screen, documents, or accessories. One that is too large can take up half a room without you really needing that much space.
At Tablakala, we mainly work with four standard desktop sizes, all featuring 3-centimeter thick boards:
- 100x60 cm
- 120x60 cm
- 140x70 cm
- 160x80 cm
There is no perfect size for everyone. The choice depends mainly on the space available, the number of screens, and the type of work you do.
As a quick rule of thumb:
| Size | Ideal for |
|---|---|
| 100x60 cm | Small spaces, laptop or one screen |
| 120x60 cm | Compact home office, laptop + monitor |
| 140x70 cm | The most balanced option for daily work |
| 160x80 cm | Two or more screens and spacious offices |
Let's look at it in more detail.
1. 100x60 cm standing desk: when every centimeter counts
A 100x60 cm desk is a particularly interesting solution when the available space is limited.
It can work very well in:
- bedrooms;
- small rooms;
- apartments;
- work areas integrated into the living room;
- stations used primarily with a laptop;
- setups with a single screen.
Its 60 cm depth allows you to maintain a reasonable distance from the monitor without the table taking up too much room.
However, you have to be realistic about what fits.
If you use two large screens, speakers, documents, a laptop, and various accessories, you will likely end up missing surface area.
With this size, it is especially useful to install a monitor arm, because it removes the screen stand from the top of the desk and frees up quite a bit of space.
Which Tablakala is it compatible with?
The standard 100x60 cm desktop is compatible with Tablakala 1 Motor.
It is not compatible with Tablakala 2 Motors, as the frame of this model requires a desktop at least 110 cm wide.
Therefore, among our standard sizes:
100x60 → Tablakala 1 Motor
For someone looking for a compact standing desk who doesn't need an especially large setup, it can be a very practical combination.
2. 120x60 cm standing desk: compact but much more versatile
The 120x60 cm size is probably the most versatile entry point for a home office.
It is still a relatively compact table, but those extra 20 centimeters compared to the 100 cm model are quite noticeable on a daily basis.
There is enough space to work comfortably with:
- a monitor and a laptop;
- keyboard and mouse;
- a lamp;
- some documents;
- small accessories.
It also allows for the use of two screens if the setup is well organized.
It is a size we highly recommend when someone wants to set up a serious home office, but has a small room or doesn't want the desk to visually dominate the entire space.
Which models is it compatible with?
The 120x60 cm desktop is compatible with both Tablakala 1 Motor and Tablakala 2 Motors.
This makes it the most compact standard size available for our two-motor model.
If you want an especially sturdy frame but don't have space for a 140 or 160-centimeter desk, the Tablakala 2 Motors + 120x60 desktop combination makes a lot of sense.
3. 140x70 cm standing desk: the most balanced size
For many people, 140x70 cm is the sweet spot.
It is not an especially large table, but it already offers a considerable work surface.
The 70 cm depth is also important.
Going from 60 to 70 centimeters allows you to:
- keep the screen a bit further away;
- have more space in front of the keyboard;
- rest your forearms better;
- place documents without having everything piled up;
- work with two monitors more comfortably.
For a person who teleworks several hours every day, it is usually a very balanced size between comfort and occupied space.
A common setup could be:
- two screens;
- keyboard;
- mouse;
- laptop;
- some documents;
- lamp or small accessory.
And there would still be a reasonably clear work surface left.
Which models is it compatible with?
140x70 cm is compatible with Tablakala 1 Motor and Tablakala 2 Motors.
The choice between both frames will depend more on usage than on the size of the desktop.
For a simple setup, Tablakala 1 Motor may be sufficient. The only thing you should keep in mind is that the Tablakala 1 Motor frame has a maximum adjustable width of 130cm, so there will be 10cm of "overhang" on the desktop (5cm on each side).
For multiple screens, more weight on the table, or if you are specifically looking for robustness and stability at height, Tablakala 2 Motors is the superior option.
4. 160x80 cm standing desk: maximum workspace
A 160x80 cm desktop considerably changes the feel of the workstation.
It is a size designed for those who have enough space and will actually use it.
It is especially appropriate for:
- two or three monitors;
- large screens;
- additional laptop;
- speakers;
- articulated arms;
- documents;
- professional equipment;
- workstations used many hours a day.
The 80 cm depth is perhaps even more important than the 160 cm width.
It allows you to place screens further from your eyes and keep plenty of free space in front of the keyboard.
It is the size we would choose for a spacious office where the desk is one of the main pieces in the room.
It is also a good solution for professional profiles who work with large amounts of information on screen: programming, design, engineering, financial analysis, or editing, for example.
Which models is it compatible with?
The 160x80 cm desktop is compatible with both Tablakala 1 Motor and Tablakala 2 Motors.
However, for a surface of this size, especially if several screens or quite a bit of equipment are going to be placed on it, Tablakala 2 Motors is our main recommendation.
Not just because of its two motors.
It also uses a more robust frame, wider columns, and larger feet, and is designed to support up to 125 kg. Furthermore, the width is adjustable up to 190cm, so you can expand the table width to match the desktop width without any problem.
The Tablakala 1 Motor frame has a maximum adjustable width of 130cm, so there will be 30cm of "overhang" on the desktop (15cm on each side).
In other words: the larger and more loaded the workstation, the more sense it makes to also invest in a robust frame.
5. How important is the desk depth: 60, 70, or 80 cm?
When talking about the size of a table, we usually pay a lot of attention to the width.
But the desk depth is equally important.
60 cm depth
It is practical for most spaces.
It works especially well with:
- laptop;
- one screen;
- minimalist setups;
- monitor arms.
Its great advantage is that it allows for a complete desk setup without taking up too much room space.
70 cm depth
It is a very balanced size.
It offers a bit more distance from the screen and more work surface without turning the desk into an especially deep piece of furniture.
That is why the 140x70 cm format is such an interesting option for many users.
80 cm depth
It is the most comfortable option when you have the space.
It is especially interesting with large screens or multiple screens because you can move them further away and still have space for keyboard, mouse, and arms.
That is why 160x80 cm is our most spacious configuration.
6. What if I need a different size?
Standard sizes cover most setups:
- 100x60 cm
- 120x60 cm
- 140x70 cm
- 160x80 cm
But we know that rooms don't always come in standard sizes.
You might have exactly 130 centimeters available between a wall and a wardrobe. Or you might want a 150x70 cm desktop because it fits better in your office.
In those cases, we can manufacture certain custom desktops.
Tablakala desktops are manufactured in Spain with high-quality chipboard and are 3 centimeters thick.
This thickness is not just an aesthetic decision. The desktop is part of the overall table assembly and contributes to a solid and durable surface.
Custom desktops take several weeks to manufacture, precisely because they are not units we have in stock.
To request one, you can contact us specifying:
- desired size;
- Tablakala 1 Motor or 2 Motors model;
- frame color;
- desktop finish;
- desired dates.
We will check the compatibility and let you know the available options.
Tablakala size compatibility
In summary:
| Standard desktop | Tablakala 1 Motor | Tablakala 2 Motors |
|---|---|---|
| 100x60x3 cm | ✅ | ❌ |
| 120x60x3 cm | ✅ | ✅ |
| 140x70x3 cm | ✅ | ✅ |
| 160x80x3 cm | ✅ | ✅ |
Tablakala 2 Motors requires a desktop of at least approximately 110 cm wide, so 100x60 cm falls outside its range.
So, what standing desk size should I choose?
The short answer would be:
100x60 cm: choose this size if you have very little space and work mainly with a laptop or one screen.
120x60 cm: an excellent option for a compact home office with a monitor and laptop.
140x70 cm: probably the most balanced size for someone who works several hours a day and wants space without installing a huge table.
160x80 cm: the best choice for spacious offices, multiple screens, and professional setups.
But we wouldn't choose based solely on the number of screens.
You also have to ask yourself how much space you can actually dedicate to the desk.
A 160x80 table can be fantastic in a spacious office and completely unnecessary in a nine-square-meter bedroom.
Buy the size you are going to use.
Not the biggest one just for the sake of it.
In our standing desk collection, you can compare the Tablakala 1 Motor and Tablakala 2 Motors models and choose different combinations of frame, size, and desktop finish.
As we have mentioned, all our standard desktops are 3 cm thick and manufactured in Spain.
And if none of the available sizes fit your space exactly, we can look into a custom desktop.
Because a good desk shouldn't force you to adapt the room to the table.
The table should fit into your space.
